Anti Intruder Security Mesh on top of a wall

In this project, at a Dublin apartment block, there had been numerous break-ins over a 2 metre high wall, with adjoining lower walls. We designed and installed a very effective wall top anti intruder fence, comprising galvanized steel fence posts and spiked top frame-work, clad with 358 Security Mesh.

This is a job which looks great as well as being very effective. All the steel-work was custom made in our fabrication workshop. The job was complicated by there being a large number of underground services on the inside of the wall, (water and gas pipes).

Security in a home is essential. Many homes do not have proper security and therefore have had or are at risk of having burglaries. While some recent analysis shows that the number of burglaries has decreased, it is still important to secure your home properly as your home may still be at risk.

Alarms are basic equipment in home security. Many alarm companies will install their alarms free of charge or for a small fee, though they will charge an ongoing fee for monitoring. Although alarms may be generally reliable, some burglars may find a way around them. In recent years, new technology has been invented to get around even the most high tech alarms. So, you may think that having an alarm is enough but in reality, it is not.

Some people think that trees and shrubbery will also deter burglars when really all they offer is a hiding space to aid them in their escape. However, thorn bushes have been shown to discourage burglars as they do not want to get scratched.

One of the most reliable ways to secure your home is with fencing. Fencing can be installed quickly and it can be very affordable. They give you a sense of security in your house, while at the same time actually preventing burglars from entering your home.

A common type of fencing is Chainlink fencing. It is very practical and also easily installed. It is sturdy enough to withstand burglars trying to break it down and can also be improved even further with the addition of razor barbed wire along the top, or, anti climb paint put on the top half of the fence (this will also prevent small children from getting covered in the stuff).

The more secure your house looks, the less chance there is of a burglar trying to break in. If a burglar sees that you have fencing and an alarm system along with some thorn bushes, they will almost always go for a property that looks easier to enter. Motion detector flood lights along with a secure gate at the front will have an immediate impact on the mindset of the burglar, discouraging them from entering the property.

Remember, the more secure your house looks, the better. A fence, thorn bushes, floodlights and alarms will all help to improve your home security.

SECURITY FENCING – how fencing can help secure your premises.

Fencing is an essential part of securing your property. It can deter burglars of any kind if it is the right type of fence. Fencing can be very difficult to climb and may even have barbed wire on the top to prevent intruders to a further extent. It is generally the first obstacle in the path of a burglar and is crucial in preventing intrusion.

There are many different types of fencing capable of deterring intruders. One of the most common types of fencing is Chainlink fencing. Chainlink fencing is low on cost and maintenance while also very durable. It is not great for privacy but it is functional in many other ways. The wire used in the fence is usually galvanised and then coated in green plastic to protect it further, making it a very durable and easy to install option for security. Chainlink fences are exceptionally difficult for intruders to climb as they have nowhere to place their feet while climbing. In this case, the taller the fence, the better. From an industrial point of view, a barbed wire top added to the fence would deter intruders even more and would be a better option compared to plain Chainlink fencing.

Another common type of fence is Welded mesh panels (V-Mesh). This consists of panels of welded mesh attached to poles at regular intervals. Again, it is very durable as it usually comes galvanized and coated in green plastic. It is also very hard to climb so intruders would be discouraged from the get-go. It has a very pleasing appearance, and would be suitable for a residential area from an aesthetical point of view, while still being very effective. From an industrial perspective, it is quite practical and can be installed with ease. If you want extra protection, razor barbed wire on top and long lasting anti-climb paint would help to deter potential burglars from entering your property.

A third type of fence commonly used to protect property is Palisade fencing. This consists of corrugated strips of galvanized steel with a sharp, triple pointed top. This would definitely not be suitable for a residence from an aesthetic perspective as it is not subtle and draws the eye. It is however, very practical. It is relatively hard to climb, and the spikes at the top would deter potential intruders from climbing fully over the fence. It is definitely more suited to an industry. It would fit right in, in an industrial estate and looks the part. It definitely discourages burglars. It is the most durable of the three fences as it consists of the thickest metal and is galvanized and can come coated in green plastic.

Again, fences have an important part to play in deterring intruders and will give you peace of mind about the security of your business or home. They also make a statement about you, and are a very visible element of your property. 

What makes a good garden fence ?

This is Sam Bourke again on this blog. Today, I am considering the topic of what makes a good garden fence. 

The primary function of a garden fence is to keep unwanted animals from feeding on the plants or vegetables that you grow in your garden. Traps, repellent and poison will only ward off animals whereas a garden fence will keep them out completely. The size and type of fence you install depends on the type of animals you want to keep away. A simple 2-foot high chicken-wire fence will discourage rabbits but you will need something more formidable to keep out foxes or rabbits.

Wooden or picket fences look the part but are costly to install and may not last forever. Wire or electric fencing is slightly more cost effective and effective in general but is by no means easy on your wallet either. A three foot high chicken-wire fence with a subterranean chicken-wire barrier will keep out small to medium sized animals and burrowers. It comes in a variety of widths and sizes and can be bought in rolls up to 50 foot rolls.

Before you do any of this, you first need to identify the animal pests that bother you. A plastic mesh fence will deter deer if and some smaller creatures whereas rabbits will gnaw through this in a matter of moments. Rabbits need something they can’t gnaw through such as a metal chicken-wire mesh fence. You must take all these factors into account in order to get the best garden fence to suit your needs.

As well as keeping other animals out, other functions of a garden fence are to keep pets in. You do not want your beloved dog to go wandering around the neighbourhood with a chance of getting run over. The same goes for children. They always have the potential for wandering off, and putting themselves in all kinds of danger especially since most kids have little sense of road safety. A garden fence can be an effective way to keep children and animals in the garden.

Chainlink mesh would be the perfect solution to all these problems. It can be galvanized and coated in green plastic so it is not an eyesore. It blends in perfectly with your garden while at the same time excluding pests and stray animals. Chainlink will last a long time if it’s treated properly. Rabbits will not be able to gnaw through it and other pests or stray animals will also be deterred from entering your property.

Handrail Fencing project

 For this project, at a major industrial park, the customer selected 1.2m high V-Mesh welded mesh panel  fencing, with a top and bottom rail on each bay.

It wasn't a lot of fun for the team to have to carry out the installation work in the rain, but them's the breaks....

Mesh Panel Fencing

 Welded Mesh panel fencing, while a relatively new product in the fencing market in Ireland, is proving extremely popular and effective. Shown here are some examples of V-Mesh, where the mesh panel has a "V-shape" pressed into it horizontally, to give the panel rigidity.

Chainlink fence project

OVERVIEW
This project involved fencing off a derelict building in Clonskeagh, in Dublin, Ireland. It is next to a large school, and presented a safety risk to the school children. Using 1.8m (6 foot) high green pvc coated chainlink fencing, with green powder coated tubular steel fence posts proved a solution that was cost effective, and looked well.







DOUBLE GATE

The project also required a large Double Leaf Gate for vehicles to access the site, and we installed a gate which matched in with the chain link fence.










STRUTS
At corners and changes in direction we used Straining Posts, which require diagonal bracing struts, on going in each direction.
