Palisade Security Fence - Dublin.

Manufactured from Hot Dip galvanized steel, Palisade is the main choice for heavy duty industrial security fencing. With high quality galvanizing corrosion protection, to IS EN 1461:2009, the 

steel will have a very long life, as well as keeping out unwanted visitors.

In this project, at a Dublin apartment block, there had been numerous break-ins over a 2 metre high wall, with adjoining lower walls. We designed and installed a very effective wall top anti intruder fence, comprising galvanized steel fence posts and spiked top frame-work, clad with 358 Security Mesh.

This is a job which looks great as well as being very effective. All the steel-work was custom made in our fabrication workshop. The job was complicated by there being a large number of underground services on the inside of the wall, (water and gas pipes).

Industrial Security Gates

Gates are an essential part of security in industrial areas. Gates provide a practical and secure way for you and your staff to enter and exit the workplace, and for customers and other visitors to come and go. Sometimes, its necessary to control where staff and visitors walk/drive, perhaps due to traffic or operational issues, such as forklifts loading and unloading lorries. You don’t want staff or customers in the way. Gates can allow you to control access to the areas you need controlled. Gates also provide an ideal emergency escape route in the event of a fire or any other emergencies

There is a broad range of gates on the market, which can be installed simultaneously with your security fence.

One of the most popular varieties of gate is a sliding gate. This consists of one or two movable gates which slide together and meet in the middle of the gateway so it can be secured with a lock. They can slide on a track in the road, or they can be set up as a cantilever system, with the track built into the gate. Sliding gates can come in a wide range of styles including chainlink, palisade, v-mesh, and steel panelling all of which can be galvanized or coated in green plastic for extra durability.

Another type of gate is a double leaf swing gate. This consists of two swinging panels of gate that meet in the centre of the gap between the gateposts. Again the materials in used in the gate may be Chainlink, palisade or v-mesh, which can be galvanized or coated in plastic. This gate must be secured in the middle with a lock. The downside of this is that the point in the centre of the two gate panels is structurally weak as the two gates swing in and out. This is usually overcome by having a drop bolt on the bottom of each gate.

The last style of gate is a single leaf gate. This comprises of a single gate panel, which hangs off of a hanging post and swings to meet a receiving post. This gate is secured using a lock at the point where the gate meets the receiving post. This is the most common type of gate for a residential area but is also not unusual to see in an industrial estate. This is because this form of gate is generally used in smaller sizes due to its instability, making it more practical to utilize as a pedestrian gate. It is possible to have this gate in different materials including Chainlink, v-mesh and palisade.

The gates may be automated or manual. There are many types of motor and operators for automatic gates, (hydraulic arms, underground motors, chain systems etc) and many types of controls, (radio-control, proximity tag, keypad, mobile phone, intercom etc). These can be connected to your existing building security system, and to your CCTV system, and fire alarm, if necessary.

Gates make a statement about you and your property. They are the first thing any visitor will see when they come. They can enhance appearance and value, control access, and above all create an impression about you and your business, which is always something which you need to consider carefully.

SECURITY FENCING – how fencing can help secure your premises.

Fencing is an essential part of securing your property. It can deter burglars of any kind if it is the right type of fence. Fencing can be very difficult to climb and may even have barbed wire on the top to prevent intruders to a further extent. It is generally the first obstacle in the path of a burglar and is crucial in preventing intrusion.

There are many different types of fencing capable of deterring intruders. One of the most common types of fencing is Chainlink fencing. Chainlink fencing is low on cost and maintenance while also very durable. It is not great for privacy but it is functional in many other ways. The wire used in the fence is usually galvanised and then coated in green plastic to protect it further, making it a very durable and easy to install option for security. Chainlink fences are exceptionally difficult for intruders to climb as they have nowhere to place their feet while climbing. In this case, the taller the fence, the better. From an industrial point of view, a barbed wire top added to the fence would deter intruders even more and would be a better option compared to plain Chainlink fencing.

Another common type of fence is Welded mesh panels (V-Mesh). This consists of panels of welded mesh attached to poles at regular intervals. Again, it is very durable as it usually comes galvanized and coated in green plastic. It is also very hard to climb so intruders would be discouraged from the get-go. It has a very pleasing appearance, and would be suitable for a residential area from an aesthetical point of view, while still being very effective. From an industrial perspective, it is quite practical and can be installed with ease. If you want extra protection, razor barbed wire on top and long lasting anti-climb paint would help to deter potential burglars from entering your property.

A third type of fence commonly used to protect property is Palisade fencing. This consists of corrugated strips of galvanized steel with a sharp, triple pointed top. This would definitely not be suitable for a residence from an aesthetic perspective as it is not subtle and draws the eye. It is however, very practical. It is relatively hard to climb, and the spikes at the top would deter potential intruders from climbing fully over the fence. It is definitely more suited to an industry. It would fit right in, in an industrial estate and looks the part. It definitely discourages burglars. It is the most durable of the three fences as it consists of the thickest metal and is galvanized and can come coated in green plastic.

Again, fences have an important part to play in deterring intruders and will give you peace of mind about the security of your business or home. They also make a statement about you, and are a very visible element of your property.

HOME AND BUSINESS SECURITY

Having spent years surveying homes and businesses after break-ins and burglaries,
we hope to provide some advice and knowledge to people, which may help prevent
future break-ins. We hope to add more to this page over time.

Perhaps the single most recurring thing over the years is that most burglars are opportunists.
They will take any easy opportunity to break in.
If you can make it a bit harder for them to break in, and escape easily, from your premises, they will go elsewhere.

What attracts the burglar?

1 Unlocked windows/Open windows – lock all windows whenever you leave home.
2 Any sign that your property is unattended, such as lights, curtains/blinds left open, at night or closed all day.
3 Post piling up - cancel newspapers and have a neighbour collect any post, flyers etc, while you are away.
4 Hidden keys – don’t leave your spare key in any of the obvious places, like under the mat
or through the post box.
5 Easy access to the rear of your house – fit a side gate with a lock.
6 Ladders or tools in easy reach – lock away anything that would help a burglar gain access
to your home
7 Unguarded property – lock it away in a garage or shed or keep it indoors.

What deters the burglar ?

Outside Lighting
Good lighting deters criminals.
Lights linked to infra red detectors which activate when an intruder comes near are very effective.

Intruder Alarms
Intruder alarms are strong deterrent to burglars.
Statistics show over 90% of homes that are burgled do not have alarms.
Where homes with alarms have been burgled, over 70% of the alarms had not been switched on.

Property Perimeter security
Walls and fencing around your house improve your security, and make it harder for a thief to break in.
Entrance Gates are also important. If you have them, and they are kept closed, opportunist intruders will be more likely to go elsewhere, to somewhere easier to get in and out quickly.
Trees and shrubs can also be hiding places, so chain-link fencing can be a better compromise.
Thorny bushes have been found to be a very effective deterrent.

Mesh Panel Fencing

 Welded Mesh panel fencing, while a relatively new product in the fencing market in Ireland, is proving extremely popular and effective. Shown here are some examples of V-Mesh, where the mesh panel has a "V-shape" pressed into it horizontally, to give the panel rigidity.

Chainlink fence project

OVERVIEW
This project involved fencing off a derelict building in Clonskeagh, in Dublin, Ireland. It is next to a large school, and presented a safety risk to the school children. Using 1.8m (6 foot) high green pvc coated chainlink fencing, with green powder coated tubular steel fence posts proved a solution that was cost effective, and looked well.







DOUBLE GATE

The project also required a large Double Leaf Gate for vehicles to access the site, and we installed a gate which matched in with the chain link fence.










STRUTS
At corners and changes in direction we used Straining Posts, which require diagonal bracing struts, on going in each direction.
